President Trump Considering Sen. Tom Cotton For CIA Director

According to reports, President Donald Trump is considering replacing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. This means, of course, that Trump would need to find a new CIA head – and Sen. Tom Cotton is in the running.

According to a report from Axios, Cotton is being considered because he is “one of the few senators with an easy relationship with Trump.” Cotton talks to Trump a few times a week, and he even planted the seed for Trump’s new Iran policy. And like Trump, Cotton is not a career politician: a double Harvard graduate, he served in the Army’s 101st Airborne, with combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, for which he earned a Bronze Star. He then worked as a consultant at McKinsey and Co. before embarking on a political career in 2012.

Y.A. Tittle died last week.  A Hall of Fame quarterback for the New York Giants, he is best known for the taking a knee on a football field. Actually, it was two knees.

In September 1964, the Giants were facing the Pittsburgh Steelers at old Pitt Stadium.  Tittle was 38 years old and at the tail end of a 17-year professional career.  He had led his team to three straight NFL Championship Games, in ’61, ’62, and ’63, but did not win.

In the game against the Steelers, he dropped back into his own end zone to throw a pass.  He was viciously knocked to the ground and his helmet flew off.  The pass was intercepted for a touchdown.
He struggled to his knees and stared blankly into the open field, bleeding from his head.  The other players backed off and left him to himself.

Citing past clashes and protests, Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday declared a state of emergency in advance of a speech white nationalist Richard Spencer is scheduled to give at the University of Florida.

The state's Republican governor warned in an executive order Monday that a "threat of a potential emergency is imminent" in Alachua County, in north Florida. Spencer is slated to speak at the campus on Thursday and his pending appearance has already sparked protests in the university town.

A journalist who led the Panama Papers offshore tax evasion expose was killed today when a bomb blew up her car.

Investigative reporter Daphne Caruana Galizia - dubbed a "one-woman WikiLeaks" - was killed as she was driving near the village of Bidnija in northern Malta.

She had filed a complaint to police a fortnight ago after receiving personal threats to her safety, local media said.

Caruana Galizia ran a hugely popular blog relentlessly highlighting cases of alleged corruption, often involving politicians from the Mediterranean island nation.

Air Force Service Members Accused of Painting Satanic Graffiti on South Carolina Church

Via Iver

Four Air Force service members have been arrested after surveillance footage connected them to a recent act of vandalism at a historic South Carolina church.

Kayla Eilerman, 18, Clayre Savage, 18, Daveion Green, 19, and Brandon Munoz, 20, are facing charges of malicious injury to a house of worship, conspiracy and trespassing surrounding the incident, which occurred late last month. They all are stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, approximately 25 miles away.

According to reports, on Sept. 29, a member of Salem Black River Presbyterian Church in Mayesville called police after discovering that the church had been defaced with pentagrams, an upside-down cross and the word “Satan.” 20 spray-painted markings were found around the exterior of the church and two other buildings on the property. A door had also been kicked in.

Two Obama holdovers are sowing the seeds for another subprime collapse

A pair of top Obama-appointed bank regulators still serving in the Trump administration could spark another mortgage meltdown by lowering credit standards and encouraging risky lending practices.

Democrat Mel Watt, who is serving a special five-year term as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, is pushing the mortgage-lending giants he regulates — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — to offer home loans to deadbeat borrowers with shaky credit, setting up conditions for another housing-market crash, industry officials warn.

For me the straw that broke the camel's back was the comment by Cam Newton of the Charlotte Panthers that Colin Kapernick had made "the ultimate sacrifice". This was not just stupid and insensitive but deliberately insulting to the families and friends of those who have died defending the flag and the nation that has given him the opportunity to be a very rich and self indulgent asshole.

I have been deliberately silent of late. Not for lack of opinion but out of pure disgust. As my son told me white some time ago "You might still love your country but your country no longer loves you.

That said this whole NFL business has driven me out of my self imposed exile, at least for a brief moment. It's not just disgusting, it's revolting. What we are being forced to deal with is a group of people, 99.9% of whom have been spoiled and pampered and catered to since they were in high school if not sooner, simply because they had a talent of throwing or catching a football or running around hitting people. Ask yourself what do they really contribute to society as a whole? Watching them celebrate making a touchdown or a tackle like they had just singlehandedly cured a disease or saved the world from some impending disaster makes me want to puke.

Add in the fact that the great many of them can't speak proper English even after 16 or more years of school and you have a picture of what is wrong with American culture.

Now they're after Civil War re-enactors

Civil War re-enactors replaying the Battle of Cedar Creek in Virginia on Saturday went ahead with their demonstration despite the group organizing the event receiving a letter threatening "bodily harm" to anyone who participated.

The battlefield was temporarily cleared on Saturday when a "suspicious device" – possibly a pipe bomb – was discovered.  The FBI is investigating.

Washington Post:

"We wanted to send a message," said Keith MacGregor, 56, from Lebanon, Pa., who was playing the role of a Union infantry captain for the reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek, held not far from here. "We wanted to show the U.S. that we aren't going to let some terrorist, or some nut, stop the event. I was never prouder of people in our hobby."
Before and after the minute-long "U.S.A." chant, the two sides who acted out the battle came together and thanked each other for coming – and for staying. "The Star-Spangled Banner" was played and sung. So was "Dixie."
